Former Derry skipper Anthony Tohill has announced his retirement from gaelic football.
The four-times All Star winner has been troubled by a knee injury which forced him to miss the entire 2003 National League campaign.
The Swatragh man returned to the county colours for the Championship but has now said he was hanging up his boots.
The 32-year-old midfielder powerhouse said his knee injury had been the main reason for his retirement.
"I would only be putting my health at further risk if I played on," Tohill told the Irish News.
"I want to do other things in life which I probably neglected over the last few years."
Tohill is regraded as one of the greatest footballers in Ulster in recent times.
He was part of the Derry Minor side which won the All-Ireland title in 1989 and four years later played a leading role as the Oak Leaf seniors won the Sam Maguire.
Tohill won All Star awards in 1992, 1993, 1995 and 2000.
The Derry star was captain of Ireland's International Rules team which won both 2001 Tests in Australia.
