Derry recovered from a poor start to outscore All-Ireland champions Kerry in the National League Division One final.

Buoyed by goals from Donncha Walsh and Darren O'Sullivan, Kerry looked in command at 2-5 to 0-4.

But Fergal Doherty hit the net for the Oak Leaf county before the break and when they got another goal from Conleth Gilligan Derry were 2-6 to 2-5 ahead.

Kerry briefly regained the lead but three scores from Paddy Bradley helped Derry claim their sixth lague title.

All Star winner Bradley finished with a personal tally of six points and the Ulster county's other scores came from Eoin Bradley (2), Gilligan, Paul Murphy, Gerard O'Kane, Niall McCusker and Michael McIvor.

Kerry forward Colm Cooper came on as a second-half substitute and was sent-off after picking up two yellow cards.

"At long last we have delivered a little bit of silverware," said Derry manager Paddy Crozier.

"After the first 15 minutes we thought we were going to get slaughtered, we just did not turn up.

"We came back and at half-time knew we were by no means out of it.

"Every team is beatable no matter how big they are and we are delighted with the win.

"We have waited eight years to win something, most of our players have not sampled this before."
