Crues through in cup
Crusaders scored a penalty in the cup replay against H & W Welders
Gavin Arthur gave Crusaders a 15th minute lead

Nationwide Irish Cup sixth round replay
Cruaders 2-1 H & W Welders

Premier Division side Crusaders made it through to the quarter-finals of the Nationwide Irish Cup by beating Second Division leaders H & W Welders on Tuesday night.

Gavin Arthur and Alan Murphy netted early goals to put the Crues in command of the sixth round replay at Seaview.

Arthur got the 15th minute opener with a penalty after Alan Murphy had been pushed in the box.

Two minutes later Murphy himself made it 2-0.

In the opening minute of the second half Crues keeper Paul Kee was beaten by a long throw-in. Crusaders protested Kee had not touched the ball but the goal was given.

However, the intermediate side could not find a second and it was Crusaders who went through to play Coleraine in the last eight.

  • Ballymena United booked their place in the final of the TFG Sports County Antrim Shield with a 3-1 home win over Chimney Corner.

The Second Division underdogs from Antrim had taken the lead through Jonathan Hume on 14 minutes.

But Kenny Shiels' First Division outfit hit back with goals from Paul Evans, Conor Gregg and Peter Withnell.

The Sky Blues will discover their final opponents on Monday 24 february when the other semi-final is played between Glentoran and Linfield.
