McCullough-Harrison date revealed

McCullough's title challenge will probably be in Glasgow
Wayne McCullough will challenge WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison on 22 March.

A venue for the fight has yet to be confirmed but the bout is expected to take place in Harrison's home town of Glasgow.

It will be McCullough's second attempt to win the WBO featherweight belt, having been outpointed by Prince Naseem Hamed in 1998.

McCullough was at ringside when Harrison won the WBO crown with a comprehensive points win over Julio Pablo Chacon before a sell-out crowd in Glasgow in October.

"I saw a few weaknesses that night which I know I can exploit. He has not fought anyone of my class before," said McCullough.

The Belfast boxer celebrated an overdue return to his home city with a crunching fourth-round victory over Russian Nikolai Eremeev in November.

McCullough had been of the ring for over a year after failing a routine British Boxing Board of Control brain scan in November 2000.

The Belfastman remained eligible to box in the United States and he returned to the ring with a second round stoppage of Alvin Brown last January.

However after intensive lobbying by his new promoter Frank Warren, the BBBC re-issued McCullough with a British licence last June.

Three months later, McCullough made a successful return to the ring in the UK with a fourth-round stoppage against South African Johannes Maisa.
