Glenarm schoolboy on target
Leo took up field archery three years ago
Leo is a student at St MacNissi's Garron Tower
A 15-year-old Glenarm schoolboy is Northern Ireland's latest sporting world champion.

Leo Steenson beat off competition from all over the globe to win the field archery world gold medal recently.

The St MacNissis Garron Tower student took up the sport three years ago and has wasted little time in making a major impact.

"It's out in the open," points out Leo.

"You're round forests and dealing with different distances and different angles.

School honour

"Every target that you shoot at will be different to the previous one.

"That makes it far more interesting than just shooting over and over again at the same target".

Leo's father Bill is also an archery enthusiast and the duo practise together in Glenarm Forest.

Leo's school are very proud of his achievements and the 15-year-old was honoured after coming back home with his gold medal.

Games master Tommy Lismore has even suggested that archery may be introduced into the Garron Tower's sporting curriculum in the future.
