Glens win is not enough
Gary Smyth's goal against Coleraine was his fifth of the season
Gary Smyth's header gave Glentoran first half lead

Glentoran 2-1 Coleraine

Glentoran ended the season with a fifth successive win but it was not enough to bring the Premiership title back to the Oval.

Portadown's victory against Cliftonville at Shamrock Park meant Roy Coyle's Glens finished runners-up, just a point away from the championship.

Central defender Gary Smyth headed the east Belfast side into a 13th minute lead.

At that stage, Portadown were trailing to Cliftonville and the Premiership would have been heading to Glentoran who last won it three seasons ago.

Former Glentoran player Rory Hamill scored Coleraine's equaliser in the 64th with a chip which went in off an apright.

Mark Glendinning grabbed a 79th minute winner for Glentoran, his header from a Chris Walker corss going in off the crossbar.

But it all ended in an anti-climax for the Glens as the helicopter carrying the league trophy headed to Portadown.
