McCloskey's long wait over
Paul McCloskey had been beaten in the closing stages of the Irish Championships in each of the last four years
Paul McCloskey defeated Kildare man Roy Sheehan
Dungiven fighter Paul McCloskey finally claimed an Irish Senior Amateur Boxing title when he defeated Kildare schoolboy Roy Sheehan in Friday's light welterweight final.

McCloskey, beaten in the closing stages of the last four Irish championships, was a 12-5 winner over Sheehan.

Derry light middleweight John Duddy also claimed an overdue national title.

The Ring clubman defeated Larne's Andrew Gibson 15-6.

In another all-Ulster decider, Andrew Murray of Cavan/Clonoe hammered Noel Monteith 30-12 in the lightweight defeat.

McMonagle beaten

The two remaining Ulster winners were Liam Cunningham from the Saints club in Belfast who claimed the flyweight title and Immaculata's Martin Lindsey.

Lindsey defeated holder Damien McKenna in the bantamweight title with a surprise 13-8 success.

McKenna was going for his fourth successive title but he was unable to cope with Lindsey's all-action style.

Cunningham, winning his fifth Irish title in six years, defeated Darren Campbell 10-4.

It was Campbell's fourth successive final defeat at the hands of Cunningham.

Holy Trinity's Cathal McMonagle was beaten 27-15 by Cork's Eanna Falvey.
