AIB All-Ireland Club Football Quarter-Final: Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-6 v 2-14 Ballinderry

Ballinderry's superior strength came to the fore on Sunday as they took their place in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland club championship.

Tir Chonaill Gaels were never really in the match against a much better Ballinderry side.

The Ulster Champions did all the hard work in the first-half with a strong breeze behind them before two goals late on gave the scoreline an even more convincing look.

Jody Gormley started well in midfield for the Gaels, but his influence was curtailed when Ballinderry switched Enda Muldoon to counter him.

However, Ballinderry raced into a seven point lead before Tir Chonaill Gaels even got onto the scoresheet.

Barry McCusker took advantage of the wind with the first point after just two minutes.

Gaels blew a chance to level with a penalty before Ballinderry took a firm grip on the game.

Gerard Cassidy, one of the stars of Ballinderry's run to the Ulster club title, then scored three consecutive points.

He scored from play on seven and nine minutes before hitting a free over the bar with 12 minutes gone.

Conleth Gilligan, another man whose form has been key for Ballinderry then got in on the act with a point on 14 minutes follwed by another seven minutes later.

Cassidy got his fourth point on 24 minutes before the Gaels got their first point of the contest from Niall Quinn.

Adrian McGuckin, Gilligan and Declan Bateson then all scored points for Ballinderry before Damien Gillespie got the Gaels second score to leave make the scoreline Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-2, Ballinderry 0-10 at half-time.

Gilligan added another point in the first minute of the second-half with a free and then added another free before Gillespie put a free over the bar for Gaels.

Gillespie's afternoon ended just a minute after that point when he was sent-off. With that the game ended as a contest.

McCusker and Barry Quinn then traded points.

Goals from Declan Bateson and Adrian McGuckin either side of a Barry McDonagh point for Gaels killed the game off.

McDonagh then got another point with McGuckin also scoring as Ballinderry eased to victory.
