O'Neill gets his chance
Brian O'Meara was sent off against Wexford
Eugene O'Neill gets the nod for the Tipperary team to play Galway in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final at Croke Park on Sunday.
He will fill the void vacated by the suspended Brian O'Meara. It will be O'Neill's first start in this year's campaign after he was usurped by Eoin Kelly and Lar Corbett during the league campaign. However, O'Neill's performance in the All-Ireland semi-final defeat of Wexford showed that he is on top of his game. Having come on at half-time, he scored 2-1 to help seal victory for the Tribesmen. Kelly now moves across from the right corner forward position to left half-forward to make room for O'Neill. That position was the main problem for Tipp in recent weeks. O'Meara received a four-week suspension following his sending-off in the All-Ireland semi-final replay win over Wexford.
Lar Corbett might go to the wing but instead, he retains his place at left corner forward. Meanwhile, Galway manager Noel Lane has placed his faith in the line-up that humbled Kilkenny at the semi-final stage. However, Lane has againre-iterated his worry over the fans clamour for tickets. He believes that the Galway fans could sabotage his team's hopes. "The players are coming under immense pressure,'' he said. ''There are simply not enough tickets to meet demand but there is nothing the players can do about this.'' Over 5000 turned up a recent training night which emphasises the interest being generated out in the west. Tipperary: B Cummins; T Costello, P Maher, P Ormonde; E Corcoran, D Kennedy, P Kelly; T Dunne, E Enright; M O'Leary, J Carroll, E Kelly; E O'Neill, D Ryan, L Corbett. Galway: M Crimmons; G Kennedy, M Healy. O Canning; D Hardiman, L Hodgins (Capt), C Moore; D Tierney, R Murray; J Rabbitte, M Kerins, M Broderick; A Kerins, E Cloonan, F Healy. |
