The Real thing for Derry City
Real Madrid
Spanish Champions Real Madrid on their way to Derry
Probably the most anticipated game in the history of Derry City will take place on Sunday 19 August.

Real Madrid, on of the biggest names in world football, will visit the Brandywell for a glamour friendly, the third of it's kind in the last year.

Manchester United and Celtic have already played against Derry as the club bid to stave off financial difficulties.

The visit of Real was set-up by local MP John Hume through his contacts in the European Parliament.

With Real Madrid due in town it is sure to bring in some much need cash through the turnstiles.

The date for the game was confirmed on Wednesday, with tickets going on sale before Derry City friendly against English Second Division side Tranmere Rovers.

Only standing tickets went on sale, tickets for the seated areas of the ground were held back until all season ticket holders are satisfied.

When United and Celtic visited Brandywell the club came in for criticism over the ticketing arrangements.

It is not yet known what kind of squad Real will bring to the north-west, but it is unlikley that the likes of Luis Figo, Steve McManaman or World record signing Zinedine Zidane will appear.
