Courtney emerges as Erne contender

Dominic Corrigan wants to be new Fermanagh manager

Philip Courtney has emerged as a contender for the Fermanagh manager's job.

The former county midfielder is currently team boss of club side Aghadrumsee.

It has been reported that county officials have sounded out Courtney but he has yet to decide whether to let his name go forward.

It is understood the Fermanagh board are keen to appoint a new boss from within the county.

Previous managers John Maughan, Pat King and Terry Ferguson were all outsiders.

Extracted revenge

Maughan resigned this week after reflection on a disappointing season.

Victory over Donegal in the Ulster Championship preliminary round promised much, but Fermanagh lost to Cavan in the first round.

And then Donegal extracted revenge over the Ernemen in the All Ireland qualifers.

Maughan's assistant Dominic Corrigan has made it clear he is willing to take on the number one job.

Recent achievements

His problem is distancing himself from Maughan's failure to turn Fermanagh into a challenging force.

But, in his favour is his tremendous recent achievements at school and under-age levels.

Corrigan has led the pupils of St Michael's, Enniskillen, to a hat-trick of appearances in the MacRory Cup.

He was also at the helm when Fermanagh reached the Under-21 final earlier this year.
