Fermanagh 0-14 Monaghan 2-10

Monaghan will meet Cavan in the Ulster Football Championship semi-finals after their surprise win over Fermanagh on Sunday.

While they look forward to that big match on 24 June, Fermanagh have to take on Donegal for the third time in just over a month.

The Erne county beat Donegal after a replay in the Ulster Championship preliminary round in May.

Now they will play them again on 16 June in the All Ireland qualifying section.

Fermanagh lagged behind in the first half as a fired-up Monaghan raced out of the blocks.

The visitors got early goals from Ciaran Tavey and Raymond Ronaghan and were eight points ahead at the break.

Fermanagh fought back gamely in the second half, chipping away at the deficit.

By the end, however, they were still two points adrift and Monaghan had secured their first win in the Ulster Championship since beating Donegal back in 1995.

Fermanagh skipper Tom Brewster admitted they had been second best on the day.

Fermanagh treated us with contempt
  Monaghan manager Jack McCarville

"All over the park, we let ourselves down badly. It is very disappointing," said Brewster.

"We are just gutted with our performance.

"We will have to work hard to motivate ourselves for another game against Donegal."

Monaghan manager Jack McCarville accused Fermangh of not showing his county enough respect.

"Fermanagh treated us with contempt talking about their semi-final with Cavan and having players back for the semi-final," said McCarville.

"You do not do that with Monaghan.

"Monaghan still have a lot of good players who have pride in their jersey and they showed it."

Fermanagh scorers: Rory Gallagher 0-8, Tom Brewster 0-4, Kieran Donnelly 0-1, Mark O'Donell 0-1.

Monaghan scorers:

Ciaran Tavey 1-3, Raymond Ronaghan 1-0, James McElroy 0-2, Declan Smyth 0-1, Gary Meehan 0-1, Darren Farmer 0-2, Thomas Freeman 0-1.
