McCullough rival Jorrin arrested
Wayne McCullough
McCullough planned to fight Jorrin in Dublin during July
Wayne McCullough's hopes of fighting WBC world super bantamweight champion Willie Jorrin are in doubt after the American was arrested following an alleged assault on his girlfriend.

The Sacramento fighter is scheduled to appear in court again on 25 June after being released on bail.

What charges Jorrin will face remain unclear, according to Yolo County deputy district attorney David Henderson.

"No charges have been filed yet and they won't be until all the reports are in and the file can be reviewed," said Henderson.

The 31-year-old WBC champion was arrested on 25 May.

According to West Sacramento police, he was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, corporal injury to a co-habitant and rape.

A spokeswoman added that a woman had come to the police department in the early hours of 25 May and reported the alleged attack.

Jorrin turned himself in to police later in the day.

Northern Ireland fighter McCullough told BBC Sport Online on 23 May that his advisors were holding negotiations with Jorrin's camp with a view to organising a fight to take place in Dublin during July.

Despite the latest development, Wayne McCullough's manager, his wife Cheryl, told The Mirror that her husband wouldn't "let this get to him".

"If anything goes wrong with this fight there are other options.

"There were alternative fights being lined up before this one, so we can follow those up if we have to," she added.

McCullough has been cleared to have his comeback fight on Irish soil - despite being barred from boxing in the United Kingdom.

The former WBC bantamweight champion has not been allowed to box in Britain since failing a brain scan last October.

But an Irish Boxing Union doctor cleared him to fight.

The Belfastman also plans to make another application for a British boxing licence.
