Rolland whistle happy

Alain Rolland's refereeing career is on the rise.

The former Ireland and Leinster scrum-half is being put tipped to one of the few players to move on onto the international stage as an official.

Rolland has been promoted by the International Rugby Board as one of the three referees named to replace veterans Jim Fleming, Clayton Thomas and Ed Morrison.

Rolland made his international debut with Paddy Johns against Argentina in 1990.

The three-times capped former Blackrock pivot will join New Zealander Kelvin Deaker, and South African Andy Turner as part of the new IRB 'B' panel.

At present Ireland have two representatives in Alan Lewis and David McHugh on the IRB 'A' 16-man panel.
