Peterhansel's Dakar lead is cut

Peterhansel is still in a strong position in the Dakar Rally
Stephane Peterhansel retained his overall lead at the Dakar Rally despite his 11th-placed finish on stage 11.

The French Mitsubishi driver lost almost 21 minutes but still leads Luc Alphand by over 25 minutes overall.

South Africa's Giniel de Villiers won the stage in a time of three hours, seven minutes and 01 seconds with Bruno Saby in second and Alphand third.

In the motorcycle section, Marc Coma claimed a second-placed finish to extend his overall lead.

The Spaniard, who finished one minute, 27 seconds behind stage winner Alain Duclos, leads last year's winner Cyril Despres by over 34 minutes.

Duclos won the 231km-stage in a time of three hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds, ahead of Coma and Jonah Street.

American Chris Blais was fourth with Jean de Azevedo of Brazil in fifth.

The rally ends in Dakar on Sunday, 15 January.
