Robins aware of financial worries

Gary Patchett
Patchett does not want the points limit for teams reduced

Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett believes speedway faces difficult financial times ahead in the next season.

British clubs have been talking of ways to cut costs because of the current economic situation.

Patchett told BBC Radio Swindon: "Individual clubs won't be able to afford the big hitters next year.

"We have already made the decision that Lee Adams is invaluable to us in our team with what he brings off the track and in the pits as well."

One suggestion to reduce costs is a cut in the points limit which sets the quality of riders teams are allowed to include in their line-up.

Patchett said he cannot see any justification in getting the points limit reduced.

"If you have a three-year plan, you can't decide to tinker around with it after 12 months if it doesn't suit you.

"We said it was going to be 39.9 and that's where it should be.

"It certainly shouldn't be any lower than that."

The annual promoters' meeting will be held on Friday in Spain to discuss the economic conditions faced by racing.
