Johnston wants change to League

Johnston was unhappy with the Witches' fixture list

Ipswich Witches rider Steve Johnston has criticised the organisation of the Elite League after his side were well beaten in their play-off with Poole.

Johnston says an inconsistent fixture list unsettled riders and teams throughout the season.

"Earlier in the year we went on a good run, then there was a two-week break, then a meeting, then another 10-day break," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

The Witches 59-33 defeat to Poole Pirates effectively ends their season.

"The Elite League ought to look at having a more consistent set-up," Johnston added.

Johnston believes the Witches were at a disadvantage because they had to ride away from home.

"Once again we have a situation whereby the third and fourth-placed teams have not made it through.

"Maybe organisers should come up with a system that keeps it more alive."
