Michael Rutter narrowly missed out on the 100mph lap

Michael Rutter fell tantalisingly short of the first 100mph lap by a TT Zero machine as he won Thursday's race on the Segway Racing MotoCzysz machine.

Rutter won the race with a lap speed of 99.60mph, thereby missing out on the £10,000 prize on offer for the first rider to top the ton mark.

The Midlands rider beat last year's winner and Moto Czysz team-mate Mark Miller from California by 18 seconds.

George Spence finished third on the Kingston University machine.

Rutter, a TT Supersport winner back in 1998, led throughout the race and recorded a top speed of 149.5mph on Sulby Straight.

Miller, a previous winner of the event, came home one minute and 38 seconds ahead of third-placed man Spence.

Ramsey's Allan Brew was fourth with Japanese rider Yoshinari Matsushita fifth.

John Burrows was the sixth and final finisher to complete the race after pushing home from Cronk ny Mona.

Nine riders started the race but Russ Mountford, Manxman Dan Kneen and Roy Richardson all retired.
