Lorenzo faces a major decision about where his future lies

Jorge Lorenzo has told BBC Sport he is keen to sign a new contract with the Fiat Yamaha MotoGP team but wants them to show they value him properly.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who lies second in the championship standings behind team-mate Valentino Rossi, is out of contract at the end of the year.

"It's not a question of money, it's a question of do Yamaha want me or does another brand want me more," he said.

"I think Yamaha want me to stay but I don't know how much they want me."

The former world 250cc champion famously ambitious, having already published his autobiography at the age of 21.

And speaking ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix at Donington, Lorenzo, who is in only his second season in MotoGP, revealed he had received plenty of offers from other teams.

"When you get results and are at the front, everybody wants you, especially when you finish your contract this year," he said.

"I have had offers from all the brands. I can't tell you the points why I don't agree with Yamaha but it continues to be the first option."

Part of the problem is his financial disparity with world champion Rossi, whose current contract was signed before the global financial crisis kicked in.

"I know Yamaha is a great machine but it's very complicated," he added.

"I want to stay at Yamaha - it's about more than respect, it's a question of being wanted.

"Yamaha has two very talented riders - maybe they don't have the potential to offer to the two riders the same."

However, Lorenzo dismissed speculation that an announcement on his future would be made before the Donington weekend, saying he expected it to go on "a long time, not a question of one week or two weeks".
