World 250cc champion Jorge Lorenzo has signed a two-year deal to join the Yamaha MotoGP team next season.
The 20-year-old leads the championship again this season, having won six of the 10 races so far this season.
"We've been watching Jorge's career with interest for some time and we are delighted he is joining us," said Yamaha racing boss Lin Jarvis.
Lorenzo's exact role is as yet unclear as Yamaha's team and rider structure for next year is under consideration.
"We're sure Jorge will be a valuable asset and we look forward to the commencement of his MotoGP career," said Jarvis.
