Felipe Massa 2009 Season StatsLast updated: Thursday, 15 November 2012 12:33 UK
BBC COMMENTATOR MARTIN BRUNDLE'S VIEW
"Felipe Massa will not have raced a Formula 1 car for nine months by the start of next season, following the accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix in which he suffered a fractured skull.
"The Brazilian will get some pre-season testing under his belt but it is going to be a long, hard winter.
"He will have some doubts and in particular he will be wondering if the crash has affected him mentally.
"To make matters worse, he has double world champion Fernando Alonso rocking up at Ferrari next season as his new team-mate and the Spaniard is consistently one of the best drivers out there.
"These two have had their spats in the past and this could well be one of the intriguing stories of 2010.
"I have said before that Massa keeps improving year by year and in 2008 he proved that, only losing the championship by a single point at the final race in Brazil.
"His ability to up his game impresses me but this will be one of his toughest challenges now."
