Narain Karthikeyan's presence at Jordan in 2005 marked a watershed in the history of motorsport - he was the first Indian to race in Formula One.

He owed his seat largely to Jordan boss Alex Shnaider's desire to exploit the Indian market for his steel business.

But that is not to say Karthikeyan lacks ability - far from it.

He impressed early on, proving fast and committed. But he went off the boil slightly after the first few races and overall failed to convince.
