CHINA
China has used the Shanghai track as a showpiece to demonstrate its status as a major player in the modern world
Location: Shanghai, China
Date: 19 October
Length: 3.387 miles
Rating (out of 10): 5
China planned the Grand Prix track in Shanghai as a showcase statement to demonstrate that the country had arrived as a player on the world stage.

The spectacular venue has raised the bar for facilities, and the layout drew general praise from drivers who say it contains "a little bit of everything".

Yet it remains no match for the great historic tracks like Spa and Monaco.

Even with all the money in the world, there is a limit to what is possible on a flat piece of former marshland.
