Bernie Ecclestone has given organisers of next year's planned US Grand Prix another week to save the Texas race by proving they have the finances in place. The F1 boss has given them a new deadline of 7 December, when the World Motor Sport Council will finalise the 2012 calendar.

Red Bull motorsport consultant Dr Helmut Marko says none of the team's four young drivers - Sebastien Buemi, Jaime Alguersuari, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne - has yet proved himself to be the favourite to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull in the future.

Spanish woman racer Maria de Villota has an agreement to be the Lotus (formerly Renault) team's reserve driver next season. "Really it's just a matter of the contract being signed, but all parties agree," she said.

Toro Rosso have strengthened their technical team with two key appointments. Luca Furbatto jons the design team in Faenza - where he will eventually become chief designer - from McLaren and Jon Tomlinson has joined the Bicester wind tunnel team, where he takes on the role of deputy head of aerodynamics.

Mark Webber is packing his bags and heading down under on Thursday to help launch his Tasmania Challenge adventure race, which raises money for charity. The Red Bull driver, who finished third in the drivers' championship, has to be in Delhi on 9 December for F1's prize-giving ceremony.
