Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has warned Felipe Massa he needs to prove himself in 2012 if he is to stay with the team for the long term. He said of the 30-year-old: "We expect great things from him in 2012 and then we'll decide how to proceed. Let's say he'll have to prove himself next season."

Force India driver Paul di Resta says it will require "quite an unusual race and a bit of luck" for his team to overturn a 15-point deficit and finish above Renault in the final standings at Sunday's season-ending grand prix in Brazil.

Mercedes' German driver Nico Rosberg insists he is not concerned that his promising Formula 1 career might end as compatriot Nick Heidfeld's did - without a single win. Heidfeld contested more than 180 grands prix without ever standing on top of the podium.

Renault driver Bruno Senna is hopeful he will keep his place with his current employers for next season. The Brazilian replaced Nick Heidfeld earlier this year and, referring to the team that will be known as Lotus in 2012, he commented: "I have no contract with any team for next year. The intention is to stay at Renault. In Formula 1 it is all about performance and the team is happy with mine."

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali says his team paid the price for their poor start to the season and never really overcame their early troubles. "It is pretty simple in my view," he said. "We were not competitive at the beginning, the gap was too big. We missed out from the technical point of view."
