McLaren first offered Team Lotus a technical partnership similar to the facility-sharing deal they recently agreed with Virgin Racing. But Team Lotus boss Tony Fernandes preferred to share key technologies with Red Bull Racing as they both run Renault engines. Team Lotus are also likely to use Red Bull's Kers system next season.
