Kamui Kobayashi will race for Toyota in Sunday's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after German driver Timo Glock was again ruled out by injury.
Japan's Kobayashi, 23, made his Formula 1 debut in the last race in Brazil and finished ninth as a stand-in for Glock.
The German suffered a cracked vertebra in Japanese GP qualifying in September.
"Having discussed medical advice with Timo and his management, the team has decided to take no risk," said Toyota motorsport president John Howett.
"We feel genuinely sorry for Timo that his season, which has included two impressive podium finishes, is ending in this way.

"Kamui performed well in Brazil in difficult circumstances so we are happy to ask him to once again deputise."
Kobayashi has competed in the GP2 Series, and joined Toyota as their test driver in 2007.
He was the fourth youngest driver on the grid at Interlagos, behind Sebastien Buemi, Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastian Vettel.
