Michael Schumacher was left embarrassed by a Silverstone pit lane error which saw him collide with Nick Heidfeld.
Schumacher rarely makes mistakes like the one on Friday
Ferrari's reigning world champion failed to notice the Williams driver
braking sharply in front of him during free practice ahead of the British GP.
The German admitted: "I didn't expect him to brake that early but I wasn't concentrating enough - that's why I didn't react quickly enough.
"There was small damage on the nose of my car but it was not that big."
Schumacher has won just one race this season and lags 29 points behind
championship leader Fernando Alonso of Renault.
He said: "I don't dare to predict what will happen (this weekend), but we really worked well today.
"If you look at the times you can see that over one lap it looks as though we are again a bit weaker but on the long runs I look a bit better.
"What will it mean for Sunday's race? I don't know.
"Not surprisingly McLaren seemed very strong. I don't want to put out
predictions but maybe I can give out some hope."
