Stewart allays Silverstone fears
Sir Jackie Stewart
Stewart said Bellm's departure was over "corporate governance"
Sir Jackie Stewart says the future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone remains secure despite the surprise axing of the track owners' chairman.

Ray Bellm was ousted from his position at a board meeting of the British Racing Drivers' Club on Wednesday.

Bellm played a key role in negotiations with F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone which eventually ended with Silverstone winning a new five-year contract.

BRDC president Stewart said the deal was unaffected by Bellm's departure.

"There is no issue over the security of the contract between (Ecclestone's) Formula One Management and the BRDC," said Stewart.

"At no time was it discussed in the meeting - it was never even thought of.

"Bernie was one of the first people I called after the meeting. There is no problem there.

"The issues (surrounding Bellm's departure) were involving corporate governance. The development of Silverstone is our number one priority."

Bellm, who had only been in the post a year, was removed by a six-three board vote against him at a London meeting.
