Lap 70: Raikkonen crosses the line 1.1 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher to take his third win of the season for McLaren.

Barrichello comes in third to put two Ferrari drivers on the podium.

Massa, Webber, Ralf Schumacher, Coulthard and Klien complete the points scoring positions after an eventful race which saw crashes, reliability problems and Montoya's disqualification all play a big part.

Lap 69: Leader Raikkonen finishes the penultimate lap 1.3 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari. Victory beckons for the Finn.

Lap 68: Raikkonen carves through more backmarkers, and now looks set to claim victory for McLaren.

Lap 67: Raikkonen still has Michael Schumacher in his mirrors, but the situation is under control for now.

Lap 66: Leader Raikkonen is now looking to avoid a repeat of his dramatic late exit two weeks ago at the Nurburgring.

He is 1.7 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari.

Lap 65: Having rejoined the race 24 laps down, Sato finally exits the race for good in the second BAR.

Lap 64: Michael Schumacher keeps up the pressure on Raikkonen and gets the gap down to 1.3 seconds.

Lap 63: Trulli's podium hopes are dashed as he appears to suffer a right front brake disc failure while running third.

His exit leaves Ferrari drivers Michael Schumacher and Barrichello set to finish second and third behind Raikkonen.

Lap 62: Raikkonen has stabilised the gap to Michael Schumacher and is looking good for victory.

Lap 60: The chaotic scenes sparked by Button's exit have also benefited Trulli, who is now in line for a podium finish in the Toyota.

Lap 58: Raikkonen is still coming under pressure from Michael Schumacher's Ferrari.

The McLaren driver knows if he can pick up 10 points his title hopes will be right back on track.

Lap 57: Michael Schumacher is still cutting the gap to leader Raikkonen as the race enters its closing stages.

Lap 55: Michael Schumacher is now just 2.6 seconds behind leader Raikkonen.

Lap 54: Button's crash has completely transformed the race, and Micheal Schumacher is now closing on leader Raikkonen as it starts to rain.

Lap 53: Montoya is black-flagged and disqualified from the race for ignoring a red light in the pitlane while the safety car was coming down the pit straight.

That leaves Raikkonen out in front, with Michael Schumacher second and

Lap 52: Raikkonen has been the main beneficiary of Button's crash, but Michael Schumacher is also in line for a podium finish.

Lap 51: The safety car pulls away and Raikkonen leads from Montoya, who is under investigation by the stewards for a possible illegal pass while the safety car was out.

Lap 50: The safety car is still out, and McLaren's decision to bring Raikkonen in first appears to have decided the race in his favour, unless Montoya can get the jump on his team-mate at the start.

There is also a question mark over whether Montoya overtook Coulthard's Red Bull after his stop, which is not allowed while the safety car is out.

Lap 49: Montoya has been scuppered by the safety car's appearance as he pits a lap later than team-mate Raikkonen and comes back out second.

Lap 48: Button's hopes of a podium finish disappear as he runs wide and crashes out under pressure from Michael Schumacher.

The safety car comes out and Raikkonen takes advantage to come into the pits, with several other cars following his lead, including Schumacher.

Lap 45: The second round of pitstops is now under way as Raikkonen continues to pressure leader Montoya.

Lap 44: Raikkonen is now closing on leader Montoya, while Michael Schumacher is less than three seconds behind third-placed Button.

Lap 43: Heidfeld suffers an engine failure while running seventh for Williams. Friesacher retires in the Minardi.

Lap 42: Montoya extends his lead over Raikkonen by a further two seconds as the Colombian chases his first win of the season.

Lap 41: New leader Montoya has a four-second advantage over team-mate Raikkonen.

Lap 40: The race has suddenly swung dramatically McLaren's way.

With both Renaults out, Montoya and Raikkonen are looking good for a one-two finish.

Lap 39: Alonso slows up after hitting the wall and Montoya cruises past to take lead, with McLaren team-mate Raikkonen now second.

Alonso limps into the pits and retires.

Lap 37: Alonso stretches his lead over Montoya by a second to 2.3 seconds.

Lap 36: Alonso leads Montoya by 1.3 seconds, with Raikkonen another 5.6secs back in third.

Lap 35: Leader Alonso is being closely tracked by Montoya's McLaren.

Lap 34: Button and Michael Schumacher make their second stops from fourth and fifth place.

Lap 33: Leader Fisichella is losing hydraulic pressure. Alonso takes advantage to finally pass his team-mate and Montoya gets past too.

Fisichella's race is over as he pulls into the pits and retires.

Lap 31: Barrichello makes his first stop in the Ferrari from eighth place.

Lap 30: Alonso still believes he is faster than Fisichella, and he starts to hound his Renault team-mate.

There are 18 cars still running. Karthikeyan has retired.

Lap 29: Barrichello has been running with a heavy fuel load and is yet to pit from eighth place.

Lap 28: Little has changed after the first round of stops, with the Renaults of Fisichella and Alonso still in front, pursued by the McLarens of Montoya and Raikkonen.

Lap 26: Montoya's mistake has let Alonso off the hook, but Fisichella now leads by five seconds after the first round of stops.

Lap 25: Fisichella and Montoya make their stops and Montoya runs off on to the grass, having looked set to come out ahead of Alonso and snatch second place.

Lap 24: Alonso and Raikkonen pit from second and fourth respectively, leaving Fisichella at least a lap to try to extend his advantage.

Lap 23: Second-placed Alonso is held up by backmarker Klien and loses a couple of seconds as Raikkonen sets a new fastest lap.

Lap 22: Massa and Heidfeld pit from seventh and eighth place.

Lap 21: The leaders are cutting through the backmarkers now.

Lap 20: Third-placed Montoya is now 6.6 seconds behind leader Fisichella.

Lap 19: Montoya goes fastest again. He has closed the gap to second-placed Alonso by three seconds in the last four laps.

Lap 18: It is Montoya's turn to set the fastest lap now as the McLarens continue to reel in the leading Renault pair.

Lap 17: The McLarens are on the charge now as Raikkonen sets the fastest lap of the race so far.

Lap 16: Third-placed Montoya sets about catching Alonso following Button's pit stop. He is 7.3 seconds behind the Spaniard.

Lap 15: Button shows he was also running light on fuel in qualifying by bringing his BAR in for its first stop.

That leaves the McLarens with some clear air, which will give an indication of how fast they are.

Lap 13: Fisichella sets a fastest lap of his own, responding to the pressure from team-mate Alonso.

Lap 12: Michael Schumacher comes in for an early pitstop to confirm that his second place on the grid was largely due to his light fuel load.

The world champion comes back out in 12th.

Lap 11: Alonso sets another fastest lap to confirm his claim that he is quicker than leader Fisichella.

Lap 10: Second-placed Alonso has told Renault that team-mate Fisichella is holding him up.

Lap 9: Barrichello is up to 15th in the Ferrari after starting the race from the pit lane.

Lap 8: Button, having failed to make the most of his pole position, has both McLarens close behind him as he runs in third place.

Lap 7: It is leader Fisichella's turn to set a fastest lap.

Karthikeyan goes on to the grass and then spins his Jordan while running in 17th place.

Lap 6: Alonso continues to pressure leader Fisichella with another fastest lap. Less than a second separates them, with Button a further four seconds back.

Lap 5: Webber and Coulthard are battling it out for 12th place.

Lap 4: Second-placed Alonso sets the fastest lap of the race so far.

Lap 3: Fisichella is setting the pace at the front, with Renault team-mate Alonso just over a second behind.

Lap 2: Fisichella and Alonso are out in front after their flying start, and the McLarens have also benefited.

Montoya is fourth behind Button and Raikkonen is fifth ahead of Michael Schumacher.

Trulli passes Sato to take seventh.

Lap 1: Michael Schumacher makes a disastrous start in the Ferrari and Button is also slow to get away from pole as the Renaults of Fisichella and Alonso charge through into the first corner.

1800 BST: Jenson Button leads the cars away from the grid for the parade lap as he prepares to start on pole for the first time this season in the BAR.

1755: The weather at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal is hot and bright, with the track temperature 47 degrees Celsius.

The feeling among the drivers is that Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher could both be running light on fuel, which would see them come in early for their first pitstops.

Button sprang a surprise by claiming pole for BAR, with Schumacher ending a poor run in qualifying by taking second on the grid.

Schumacher is chasing a first win of the year for Ferrari, having won seven times before in Canada.

Championship leader Fernando Alonso starts third alongside Renault team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella.

The McLarens of Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen are fifth and seventh.
