Ralf Schumacher will not race in France on Sunday after suffering a heavy crash at the United States Grand Prix, BBC Sport understands.
Ralf Schumacher lost control at close to top speed
The Williams driver has not recovered from the high-speed accident and will also miss the British GP a week later
He crashed backwards into a wall on the fastest part of the track and spent a night in hospital.
He will be replaced at the French GP by test driver Marc Gene, who is expected to also race at Silverstone.
Williams refused to confirm Schumacher's absence and said they were waiting for "final medical reports" before deciding who would race in France.
