Williams shuffle team
Patrick Head
Head's designs have brought Williams many titles
Sam Michael is taking over from Patrick Head as technical director of Formula One team Williams.

Head, a co-founder and part-owner of the team, will begin a new job as director of engineering.

"This is not a prelude to retirement," said 57-year-old Head, who will now focus on long-term strategy rather than day-to-day matters.

Australian Michael, 33, was previously Williams' chief operations engineer, having joined from Jordan in 2001.

Head's designs have secured nine constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles for the team.

"I will be supporting Sam fully in his new role and I expect to be no less busy with the new challenges I have set myself," said Head, who has a 30% stake in Williams.
