Button rues poor start

Jenson Button said he needs to get his BAR off the grid faster if he is to land his first win in Formula One.

The 24-year-old Briton started the Chinese Grand Prix in third but immediately dropped to fifth before fighting back to finish second.

"I was very happy to be second but to lose two places off the start - almost three - was disastrous. We will have to work on that," he said.

"But I'm confident we can do well in the last two races."

Unlike winner Rubens Barrichello and third-placed Kimi Raikkonen, Button opted to pit just twice in the 56-lap race and admitted it had been a hard strategy to carry out.

"It was a very tough race," he said.

"When you know the other guys are doing a three-stop and you are doing a two, it makes it very difficult mentally.

"With that much weight you get a bit of understeer and it makes it pretty tough."

He said he would try to push for his first win in the two remaining races, but was not that optimistic.

"It's always nice to be on the podium. It's not that I'm fed up with second or third but I've been pushing very, very hard for that win," he said.

"I think we have shown in this race that we are not quite there yet. Ferrari still have the legs on the us.

"It is possible in the last two races that we can win but as always it is very hard against Ferrari and McLaren.

"Our car seems to work well on most circuits and I'm confident we can do well in the last two races and be consistent. We have got to stay focused and relax - not get too excited."
