Sauber will give a run-out to Italian driver Vitantonio Liuzzi later this month as they seek a replacement for his compatriot Giancarlo Fisichella.
Liuzzi, 22, has just won the Formula 3000 championship and will drive Ferrari-powered Sauber C23 at Jerez in southern Spain on 16 September.
"What has impressed me is the way he has been dominating Formula 3000 this year," said team boss Peter Sauber.
"We want to get a feeling for how he can apply his skills to Formula One."
