Malaysian GP qualifying: As it happened
All the action as it happened at the Friday qualifying session in Sepang (All times GMT).

Leading positions:
1 Michael Schumacher (Ferrari) 1:34.980
2 Rubens Barrichello (Ferrari) 1:35.681
3 Juan Pablo Montoya (Williams) 1:35.939
4 Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren) 1:36.038
5 David Coulthard (McLaren) 1:36.297
6 Jarno Trulli (Renault) 1:36.301

0655: Rubens Barrichello fails to match his Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher but a time of 1:35.681 puts him second ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya in the Williams.

0653: Ralph Firman struggles round in his Jordan, a time of 138.24 putting him between Jaguar's Mark Webber and Minardi's Jos Verstappen.

0651: Cristiano da Matta drives an impressive final sector to beat Toyota team-mate Olivier Panis' time and make the top 10.

0649: Mark Webber avoids a repeat of the problems that affected Jaguar team-mate Antonio Pizzonia but can only go 14th fastest - with only the two Minardis slower.

0644: Justin Wilson loses time by running wide and goes four tenths slower than Minardi team-mate Jos Verstappen.

0641: Nick Heidfeld puts in an impressive lap in the Sauber, just edging out team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen to go into the top six.

0639: Olivier Panis goes 11th fastest in his Toyota, taking him ahead of BAR's Jacques Villeneuve.

0637: Antonio Pizzonia's Jaguar fails to start and misses its slot. He therefore does not record a time and will have to go first in Saturday's session.

0633: Giancarlo Fisichella struggles in the Jordan but a time of 1:36.759 puts him in the top 10 for now.

0632: Minardi's Jos Verstappen is almost a second slower than pacesetter Michael Schumacher through the first sector and finishes his lap almost four seconds down.

0627: Jenson Button wins his latest tussle with Jacques Villeneuve, comfortably beating his BAR team-mate's time to go seventh fastest.

0624: BAR's Jacques Villeneuve pays the price for locking his brakes coming into turn 14, and another mistake at the final corner leaves him slowest so far with a time of 1:37.585.

0622: Ralf Schumacher fails to make it into the top six with a time of 1:36.805 - almost nine tenths of a second slower than Williams team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya.

0620: Fernando Alonso produces a disappointing lap, failing to beat Renault team-mate Jarno Trulli's time and going slowest so far.

0617: Sauber's Heinz-Harald Frentzen goes slowest so far, three tenths of a second adrift of Jarno Trulli.

0612: Jarno Trulli loses a lot of time on the middle section in his Renault to clock the slowest lap of the session so far.

0609: World champion Michael Schumacher produces an ominous lap in his Ferrari to go more than a second quicker than early pacesetter Juan Pablo Montoya.

0607: McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen locks his brakes at the first corner and, despite a good middle sector, has to settle for second fastest behind Juan Pablo Montoya.

0605: Juan Pablo Montoya goes nearly four tenths of a second faster than David Coulthard to take over at the top of the standings.

0600: David Coulthard begins the session with a clean flying lap of 1:36.297 in his McLaren, one tenth of a second slower than his fastest time in free practice.

David Coulthard followed up on his win at the Australian Grand Prix by setting the pace in practice for Friday's qualifying session in Sepang.

Having won in Melbourne, Coulthard will be the first driver out on to the track for his qualifying lap this time.

This session will determine the order in which the cars go out on Saturday to establish grid positions, with the slowest going first and the quickest last.
