Williams wait on BMW decision

Williams have struggled to keep pace with Ferrari
Williams will find out if they are to continue their partnership with engine-builder BMW in mid-January, according to team boss Sir Frank Williams.

BMW chose the Didcot-based team to help them return to Formula One in 2000.

But the original partnership deal ends in 2004 and some have suggested BMW may opt to go it alone as an F1 constructor.

It is very important that all persons involved work together as long as possible

But Williams hinted he would like to continue with BMW.

"The people of BMW are one of the most intelligent and business-minded with whom I've ever worked with," he said.

"They use the budget extremely efficiently. Since the executive directors have decided to join F1 they have been working at 100%.

"Continuity is as important as optimal communication. Especially since we're located in Great Britain, BMW in Munich and our tire partner Michelin in Clermont-Ferrand.

"It is very important that all persons involved work together as long as possible."

Williams won just one Grand Prix last season, Ralf Schumacher leading home Juan Pablo Montoya in a one-two finish in Malaysia.
