McNish laments British debut
Toyota's Allan McNish
McNish's car stalled on the starting grid at Silverstone
Scotland's Allan McNish was left "angry" and "extremely disappointed" following a disastrous debut at Silverstone on Sunday in what he hopes is not his one and only British Grand Prix appearance.

McNish's future at Toyota is in doubt after a disappointing first season in Formula One and his failure to get off the starting grid was the last thing the 32-year-old needed.

The 1998 Le Mans champion suffered further humiliation when his car was then pushed off the grid to the garage by race marshals, with team mechanics unable to get the car restarted.

There was a problem with the clutch and the engine stalled

However, McNish conceded that part of the blame was his own: "The car rolled a little on the line and I was worried I would get penalised for a rolling start.

"I immediately put my foot on the brake, but as I did that the lights went green and then there was a problem with the clutch and the engine stalled.

"We tried to get the car going back in the garage, but we couldn't and by that time we were outside of the 90% time you need to be classified, so the race was over," he added.

"Needless to say I am extremely disappointed and angry, not only for myself, but for the fans supporting me here at my home race."
