Ralf must go it alone
Juan Pablo Montoya
Montoya does not pretend to be close to Schumacher
Ralf Schumacher's bid to finish second in the Formula One drivers' championship will not get much support from team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya.

Montoya has never pretended to be close to his fellow driver at Williams and says the constructors' title is more important than individual placings.

"At the end of the day, he's not going to win the championship so we're scoring points for the constructors' championship," said Montoya.

"For that it doesn't matter if he finishes ahead or behind me.

I've never said that (Montoya) is responsible for the engine failing

"Sure, if the order is given by the team to let him by, I would."

Ralf, currently third in a championship his Ferrari-driving brother Michael could win at the weekend, is closing in on McLaren's David Coulthard.

Hungary may not suit Williams but the next two races at Spa and Monza should see the car at its best.

Ralf has won three times his year, one more than Coulthard. Montoya has recorded two second places, but has been forced to retire when leading on several occassions.

The Colombian has progressed rapidly in his first season and secured pole position in the last race at Hockenheim.

Pit stop pain

He also led that race by a good distance until a fuel rig problem led to a lengthy pit stop which caused his engine to overheat.

Ralf suggested afterwards that Montoya had driven too hard and paid the price.

But technical director Patrick Head later said Montoya had simply been driving faster than Ralf - without endangering the engine.

"I've never said that he is responsible that the engine failed," said Ralf, claiming he was misquoted.

And Montoya went on to blame a lengthy pit stop for ending his race.

"I think the only thing that happened was the pit stop was so long that the engine overheated and that was it," he said.
