Fisichella makes Jordan switch
Giancarlo Fisichella at German Grand Prix
Fisichella will be in his second spell with Jordan
Giancarlo Fisichella is to leave Benetton to drive for Jordan next year.

The 28-year-old drove for Jordan in 1997, finishing third in Canada and second in Belgium, before moving to Benetton.

Team boss Eddie Jordan said: "Planning for the long-term future is vital and stability and continuity are key to success.

"I am overjoyed that Giancarlo has signed a three-year contract with us, as this gives Jordan and Honda a strong platform to build on."

Jarno Trulli, who has a long-standing contract with Benetton team chief Flavio Briatore, is likely to move the other way to fill Fisichella's current position.

Fisichella's manager had previously said that the driver was considering offers from Benetton, Jordan, and also Arrows.

Benetton have struggled in recent seasons after winning two Formula One titles through Michael Schumacher.

In his debut season for Benetton, Fisichella qualifyied on pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix and produced fine displays to clinch second place in both the Monaco and Canadian races.

But results gradually became harder to achieve as the team's Renault engine fell behind its competitors.

In 1999 his only result of note came, again, in Canada where he scored a second while a second in Brazil and two thirds - at Monaco and Canada - were the highlight of last season.

Jordan recently sacked Heinz-Harald Frentzen and replaced him with Jean Alesi.
