Jean Alesi looks set to drive for Jordan in 2002 and could sign a deal by the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Manager Mario Miyakawa insisted nothing had been finalised, but did admit the situation could be resolved at the Hungaroring this weekend.

"I really think this is the impression that we have but I cannot say it's signed because it is not," he said.

"We have an option with Jordan but we are still in discussions so it is not confirmed, although the situation looks very good."

The former Prost driver joined Jordan following the controversial sacking of German Heinz-Harald Frentzen.

In an interview on French television, Alesi declared he would be staying with Jordan beyond the final five races of this campaign.

"I will also drive for Jordan next year," he said.

"Eddie (Jordan) called me to ask me if I was available after the end of the season."

Test drive

Alesi said he was happy with his new EJ11 car after testing it out in a 50-kilometre shakedown test at Silverstone on Monday.

"The EJ11 feels very good to drive so I am really looking forward to the Hungarian Grand Prix.

"I've had a busy and productive day as there was a lot to learn about the car.

"We mainly concentrated on my seat and driving position to make me feel comfortable."

His new boss Eddie Jordan was equally impressed with his new driver.

"Jean has settled into the EJ11 very quickly. He feels comfortable and confident, and he gives 100 percent at all times.

"I think that Jarno (Trulli) and Jean will be a good pairing to achieve further success."
