European contest will be great, says Eagles co-promoter

Eastbourne Eagles

Eastbourne Eagles co-promoter Mike Bellerby says participating in the FIM Speedway Club Championship next year is a great opportunity.

The Sussex side have withdrawn from the Knock-Out Cup to take part in the inaugural European competition.

He told BBC Sussex: "I think it's going to turn out to be a great competition.

"The fans can look forward to seeing European clubs at Eastbourne and having the chance to follow us abroad when we do the second legs."

The Eagles were runners-up in the Knock-Out Cup in 2010 and reached the semi-finals last season but Bellerby says it is not possible to take part in both competitions.

"We would have loved to have done the KO Cup as well but it's a matter of not having the Saturday night dates available at Eastbourne," he added.

"It's a bit sad but we're looking forward to taking part in the first FIM Club Championship."

"I think we're likely to get the dates and the organisation of the event sorted out in the next couple of weeks."
