John McGuinness posted the quickest Superbike time in the opening practice session at the Isle of Man TT races on Monday evening.

The 15-time winner from Morecambe lapped the Mountain Course at 122.838mph, with Honda TT Legends team-mate Keith Amor (122.637) not far back.

New Zealand's Bruce Anstey posted the second quickest lap of the session on his Superstock machine (122.752).

Portugal's Luis Carreira leads the Supersport times (117.612mph).

Conor Cummins

Isle of Man rider Dan Kneen recorded the second quickest Supersport time of the session (116.888) despite having competed at Thruxton earlier in the day.

Conor Cummins' quickest time of the session also came on the Superstock machine with a 116.063mph lap.

Cummins is making a miraculous return to the TT following a 170mph crash in last year's Senior race. He described the session as the "best night of his life".

Gary Johnson, Guy Martin, Cameron Donald and William Dunlop all lapped the Mountain Course in excess of 120mph.

Meanwhile, last year's double sidecar champions Klaus Klaffenbock and Manxman Dan Sayle top the sidecar leader board after recording a lap of 110.911mph on their second lap.

The session was eventually red-flagged after heavy rain on the mountain section of the course. The second practice session will get under way on Tuesday, with the mountain section of the course due to close at 1700 BST, and the rest of the circuit at 1800 BST.
