Poles dispute upsets Swindon Robins Lakeside meeting

Swindon Robins have cancelled Thursday's meeting with Lakeside at Blunsdon because of the continued unavailability of their Polish stars.

The Polish authorities are in dispute with the International Motorcycling Federation over the use of silencers.

The row threatens the participation of Poles in foreign leagues.

"Whilst the situation is ongoing and could change we feel it is only fair to our fans to make this decision," said Robins boss Gary Patchett.

The Robins have three Polish riders currently on their rosta, Tomasz Chrzanowski, Maciek Janowski and Grzegorz Zengota, who is sidelined with a broken leg.

The management team of Patchett along with Terry and Ronnie Russell said they did not want to field a badly depleted side in front of their own fans to launch the season.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused by this decision but feel our supporters will fully understand," added Patchett.

"It means the first meeting of the season at Swindon will be the Elite League clash with King's Lynn next Thursday, April 7.

"We will go into our league clash at Belle Vue next Monday hopefully with the riders available.

"If not we will be looking at short time signings and/or making full use of the facilities available to cover their absence."
