Ipswich Witches boss satisfied by opening win

Ipswich Witches

Ipswich Witches boss Pete Simmons proclaimed himself "reasonable happy" with his side's Premier League opening victory over Berwick Bandits.

The Witches marked their return to the second tier with a 53-42 win.

Captain Kevin Doolan top scored (10+3) for Ipswich, with the only black mark an 8-0 seventh heat reverse.

"I am reasonably happy with how things went. The 8-0 against us in heat seven was not ideal but these things happen," said Simmons.

"We still have a few engine gremlins to sort out in the team but it is early days and it was a good result overall."

Number four Morten Risager, who shrugged off a knee injury to ride, added: "I was a bit frustrated that I burnt out my clutch in my second heat but I felt really comfortable on the track by the end of the meeting and especially enjoyed my last heat win.

"My knee felt fine all night so that's good news as well."

Ipswich are next in action when they host Scunthorpe on Thursday.
