Polish dispute hinders Peterborough Panthers

Peterborough promoter Peter Oakes says the Panthers have had to delay finalising their line-up because of a dispute with Polish speedway riders.

The Polish authorities believe new silencers on this year's bikes are dangerous and will not let their riders race anywhere they are used.

"I think it is something that will blow over and will be resolved," Oakes told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"But until that's the case we can't push ahead and confirm contracts."

Talks between the Polish governing body and World Speedway got underway on Tuesday but it is not certain how quickly the situation will be resolved.

And with the Panthers reportedly interested in taking Polish trio Norbert Kosciuch, Krzysztof Buczkowski and Karol Zabik on board for 2011, their plans for team building are on hold.

"It's a fairly open secret that we will have a couple of Poles in our team in 2011 as we did last year," Oakes added.

"But we just can't finalise those details. We're not alone, eight out of the 10 Elite League clubs are in exactly the same position."

Wolverhampton's British rider Tai Woffinden expressed his reluctance to use silencers earlier this week, claiming the equipment was too expensive.
