Menu takes BTCC title

Alain Menu snatched the Touring Car crown at the death
Alain Menu sensationally snatched the Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship title at Silverstone as Anthony Reid missed out in the most heartbreaking fashion.

Reid went into the final round of the season with a nine-point lead in the standings over Ford team-mate Menu.

The Scot only needed to avoid mishaps to capture the crown for the first time.

But on the 28th lap out of 30, Reid attempted to pass Vauxhall's Vincent Radermecker for fourth position.

The duo touched, and Reid spun out of the race into the gravel to leave his championship dream in tatters.

Menu was ahead of him in second place and although the Swiss driver was overtaken near the end by Jason Plato's Vauxhall, he was still able to overhaul Reid in the standings and clinch the title by just one point.
