Manager Graham Drury returns to Birmingham Brummies

Graham Drury will return to the Birmingham Brummies next season, it has been confirmed - just eight days after it was announced he was leaving.

The co-promoter and team boss was told he would not be handed a new contract, but a mystery club sponsor has stepped forward to keep him at Perry Barr.

Drury told BBC WM: "I had a phone call from a sponsor and he asked whether I had fallen out with [owner] Tony Mole.

"I said 'no' and he told me the person to take the club forward was myself."

He continued: "He told me to have a word with Tony and say that he was prepared to sponsor me in my role at Birmingham, on the condition that I had the same authority as I'd had previously.

"Tony was highly delighted with that and within a matter of days everything was concluded, so I'm back to where I was and have been in the last four years at Birmingham."

Drury played an instrumental role in helping the Brummies return to competitive speedway in 2007, but was forced to sever his ties with the club in October because of a lack of funding.

The Brummies reached the Premier League play-offs in 2010, losing in the semi-final to Newcastle, and Drury is now looking to build a strong team for the 2011 season.

"I've been on the phone wheeling and dealing which I love doing," he added. "We're a little bit in stalemate because the riders that I would like to sign for Birmingham are under contract to Elite League clubs at the moment and those clubs won't give me permission to speak to those riders.

"I'm putting out feelers but nothing will be concluded until after the AGM on 21 November."

Drury also said that he is confident skipper Jason Lyons will return to Perry Barr for the 2011 season.
