Wolverhampton put up a strong challenge to runaway leaders Poole before losing 53-39 at Wimborne Road.

In a meeting that may prove to be a dress rehearsal for the play-off final, Wolves kept the meeting alive right through until the last couple of heats.

The Pirates' victory stretches their lead over the West Midlands club at the top of the table to 20 points.

But with Polish star Adam Skornicki due back for the play-offs after knee surgery, Wolves remain in contention.

Freddie Lindgren again carried the load for the visitors with 12 points, Nicolai Klindt adding 10 and Tai Woffinden eight.

Poole were paced by 12 points from Davey Watt backed up by Bjarne Pedersen with nine and eight apiece for Chris Holder and Leon Madesn.

The two teams are due to meet again at Wolves' Monmore Green track on Monday night.
