Stoke Potters skipper Jason Bunyan says he will work hard to get back to fitness after breaking his arm in four places against Berwick on Sunday.

The 31-year-old spent around four hours in surgery on Monday to insert two plates into his arm.

"The doctors are pretty happy with how things went," said Bunyan.

"I'm gutted to have got myself back on the bike only to be injured again, but just as last time I'll be working hard to get back to fitness and form."

Bunyan was racing for only the second time after missing almost three months of action because of a knee problem.

He suffered the injury in a collision with Berwick rider Lee Complin, the man he replaced as Stoke skipper, in the final heat at Loomer Road and admitted he knew instantly that the problem was serious.

"I entered the corner and basically the bike just didn't turn, then it picked up grip and the rest is history," Bunyan continued.

"I knew that my arm was broken straight away and I kept telling the paramedic that there was no need to inspect it.

"The X-ray showed I had shattered the arm in four places just above the elbow and also broken my hand."

Stoke went on to win the meeting 49-41.
