Ian Hutchinson won the race by by 1.3 seconds from long-time leader Ryan Farquhar to complete a TT hat-trick.
Cummins will now turn his attention to Wednesday's second Supersport race before Friday's showpiece Senior event.
The 6ft 4in rider finished eighth in the morning's Supersport race in which fellow Manxman Dan Kneen finished fifth.
Cummins led Saturday's Superbike opener by 20 seconds before being forced out with a mechanical problem on lap five.
The McAdoo Kawasaki set a new lap record for the race at 131.51mph from a standing start.
"The lap record was great but it is wins I want. At the end of the day someone will beat the records but no one can take away a TT win," he said.
